George Gamache,
Vermont Real Estate Agent
Experience and Enthusiasm
George Gamache got into the real estate business in 1979 and the reasons for it still apply today. He wanted to be involved in a field that was important to the lives of people. Where you start and end every day (a home in whatever form it takes) fits that description.
He remembers how it started like it was yesterday. During the end of his college career he was having lunch with a respected and successful man with whom he was working with on a project. They had spoken on the phone a few times and met for lunch to discuss how to proceed. About two-thirds of the way through lunch in a fairly typical American diner the older gentleman asked George, 'So what do you plan to do with the rest of your life?' That seemed like a pretty big question at the time and it served as the catalyst for good things to come.
After reviewing options, and consulting with an uncle who had been in real estate for a number of years, he studied for and passed the real estate exam to become a licensed real estate salesperson. He immediately joined the Board of Realtors and joined his uncle's firm. The first day on the job was April 30, 1979.
Being a detail person, after seven years in the real estate business it was natural become an appraiser; which he did exclusively for eleven years.
Ultimately, however, the work became perfunctory and it was too far removed from the original reasons for getting in to the real estate business so he decided to return to the sales side of real estate. He joined Coldwell Banker Hickok & Boardman Realty full-time in early 1997.
